This is the publication which captures the stories and processes behind HOSOO's activities to create its unique textiles that transcend people's imagination.
The theme of this issue is "Migration/Creation".
The history of textiles has been developing since the beginning of time, moving around the world. The origins of Nishijin textiles can be traced back to the 5th century when silk textiles were introduced to Japan from China via the Silk Road. It developed uniquely in Kyoto over a period of more than 1,000 years, and was revolutionised by the introduction of Jacquard weaving techniques from Lyon, France, at the beginning of the Meiji era (1868-1912). In addition to Nishijin silk textiles, the history of Franco-Japanese exchange traced by the fantastic silkworm variety "Cevennes", which is being reprinted, the story of an ancient purple that travels through a thousand years, and encounters in Milan, where a showroom is being developed. This issue focuses on the creations created by such mobility.
HOSOO continues to create new textiles through a dialogue with people, techniques, materials and climates that transcend place and time.
